Job Description
The Packaging Mechanic is responsible for providing support to the packaging activities at Lupin Somerset. The individual in this role will participate in the operation, setup, changeovers, troubleshooting, repairs and Preventive Maintenance of various packaging equipment. This role requires effective maintenance and operation of the packaging lines as per the designed/ validated speeds and quality parameters. This job also responsible providing on the job requires training and development of the packaging operators on the line, cGMP documentation such as work orders, PM documentation and interface with the equipment vendors for effective problem solving. Position will report to Packaging/ Engineering Supervisor.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Perform changeovers, set-up/adjustments and operates packaging line equipment as per the validated parameters with the support from the packaging operators
Supports the daily operation of the production and packaging lines
Attend to emergency breakdown work for the equipment when the situation arises and troubleshooting of equipment. Document repairs made in work orders.
Take corrective action in case of any irregularities in the machines in consultation with Engineers and manufacturing supervisors
Carry out preventive maintenance schedule for manufacturing, and packaging equipment
Ability to install, repair and troubleshoot critical electrical/mechanical systems from 480V to 120V
Work in a team environment.
Request quote for parts/service from various vendor and schedule vendor for the service.
Participate in the engineering department meetings
Maintain timely and accurate documentation of activities of the engineering department
Maintain the facility in a good state of repair. Maintain the all equipment manual, and tool inventories.
Follow safety precautions while attending jobs including the use of PPE, Lockout/Tagout and other safety precautions. Inform Safety Department of safety concerns
Work to control usage costs
Aid in changeovers and production mechanical problems
Help design machine modifications to run new products under supervision of Tech Transfer, Manufacturing and Engineering.
Establish and maintain spare parts inventory
Expected to work at a constant reasonable pace, neatly and efficiently, and as a team player with other employees
Responsible along with other mechanics for neatness, safety and security of shop and tools
Set the example for teamwork, cooperation, safety, respect and work ethic for all employees
Assist in Department of Environmental Protection duties including the containment and cleanup of spills and alarm systems.
This position requires to travel within the Lupin Somerset sites.
Perform welding, buffing and passivation work as required.
Train and develop packaging operator skills on line operations
Meet the productivity and quality goals as per the monthly, weekly and shift schedules.|
Perform packaging operations activities as assigned by supervisor.
Perform Preventive Maintenance, break down, troubleshooting such as mechanical,
electrical/electronics, PLC and pneumatic but not limited to, and implement corrective actions.
Interface with equipment vendors in effective maintenance, trouble shooting and continuous improvement of the line performance.
Supports designs and aids in fabrication of machine modifications as per business requirement and Assist in the execution of any Capital Improvement Projects.
Respond to emergency calls.
Follow all SOPs, cGMP compliance and Safety guidelines and supports in Quality investigations and implementation of CAPA.
Establishes and maintains spare parts inventory.

Qualification and Experience
Technical School, Industrial Certifications, or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred Manufacturing/Packaging Mechanic: 3+ years in the pharmaceutical industry
Electrical system knowledge and experience: 3+ years
Lockout/ Tagout and PPE training a plus.
Experience in a GMP environment
Experience with engineering documentation ideally using SAP
Troubleshooting and repair Industrial safety Equipment
Hazardous Material handling
Arc Flash trained
Electro/pneumatic troubleshooting.
Welding experience.

The physical requirements of the position include: standing, walking, sitting, using hands and fingers, reaching with
hands and arms, use of vision (including discerning colors), talking, and hearing. Frequently, bending, kneeling,
crouching, stooping, climbing ladders/stairs (including vertical ladders to roof tops), and crawling apply. This
position requires lifting up to 30 pounds. Generally, work is performed in a manufacturing environment.
Occasionally, work is performed on rooftops or in office environments. Ability to wear safety shoes, eye protection, and using respirators are required.
